MDC''s 2nd album (4th or 5th if you could their ep''s and singles) is a vastly underrated hardcore punk classic. Mostly fast thrashy hardcore punk packed full of insanely fast vocals. Good thing the album includes a lyric sheet because of the sheer speed. Mixing left wing politics and upbeat humour, Dave Dictor is definetly one of my favorite vocalists up there with Jello.

When MDC first came out they were one of the fastest and most innovative bands (along with Discharge, Bad Brains, ect) but by ''86 the style had been played out leading to a decline in popularity and relevance. That''s perhaps why I think this one''s been overlooked. However, the faster songs on here hold up with pretty much everything on Millions Of Dead Cops. Songs like No More Cops, Skateboards From Hell, and The Big Picture should be considered hardcore essentials as well as being insanely catchy. MDC aint your run of the mill hardcore band, though. Side a closes with a Funkadelic sounding little number called South Africa Is Free. Side b contains the country-fried (no pun intended) vegetarian anthem, Country Squawk, a recording of their ep track Chicken Squawk. The album closes with a psychedelic, guitar freekout instrumental.

So in the end ya got 9 hardcore punk thrashers, a punk rock take on og thrasher Little Richard cover, a little psychedilic funk, a country squawk, with some tight playing, skill, and political/fun lyrics thrown in for good measure. Buy this and their first one if you don''t have it NOW or you aint hawdcowe poonk rucka!!!!!!!!!!

I used to own this LP way back when it mattered. It came complete with a cool printed inner sleeve. Although it didn''t pack the same punch as "Millions of Dead Cops" or the Stains-John Wayne Was a Nazi EP it did have some totally awesome hardcore to its credit. Missile Destroyed Civilization, No More Cops, Skateboards From Hell and Country Squawk (AKA Chicken Squawk redone) were the memorable tracks for me. I hope someday someone puts this gem back out again!

CD reissue is taken from vinyl copy?

If you like vitriolic rants against the state, capitalism, the meat industry, etc., then look no further than MDC (and whatever anti-establishment sentiment these initials stood for on any particular week!). The music''s a little more varied than the relentless club-everything-to-death hardcore of the first album. However, the frequent clicks and pops on the German CD re-issue surely give the game away that it''s merely a copy of the original vinyl release. Cop-out? Maybe not, but it''s a darned shame a cleaner LP copy was not found and used.
